Breastmilk Milk Shakes!

Our 3 year old was a #breastfed baby.  Which of course leads to some questions and some comments.
Breastfeeding - It Rocks
Even I the father had a few.  I love my wife and sometimes show it in that typical boy fashion of picking on her.

I often would ask our little one if she wanted a milk shake and then give my wife a little shake.

Did that jokingly this morning… Little one turns, lifts up her shirt, places her hand on her chest and starts shaking it.

When asked what she was doing says “Making my own milk shake.”  A minute later she says, “Just joking, I don’t have mommy milk”

My Diet Coke Habit and why it won’t help me lose weight.

Are Diet Drinks More Harmful Than Regular Sodas? | LIVESTRONG.COM
Diet Drinks and Weight Loss Diet sodas are low in calories. Instead of containing large amounts of sugar like regular sodas, they are made with artificial sweeteners, such as saccharin, aspartame or sucralose. Time Magazine reports that, ironically, consuming a lot of artificial sweeteners can actually make you gain weight, because it increases your desire for sweet foods and leads you to consume more calories overall. Researchers at the University of Texas found that people who drank diet soda were 41 percent more likely to be overweight.

Diet Coke - Helping me?I’m trying to get my weight down to a reasonable amount.  It isn’t easy, I’m a TV eater, love my Coke-a-Cola, Ice Cream, Fried Chicken and Sonic Premium Hot Dogs.   This past year I’ve gained a lot of weight. I’ve also started losing that weight.

I’m not happy with the progress but I am not up set by it.  My wife on the other hand has been worried about my switch to Diet Coke – all those chemicals and stuff.  As I blog this my Diet Coke is within arms reach and half gone.  I came across the article above, the quote is just a small part of the article, but it isn’t the chemicals that worry me.  I was hoping that a Diet Coke would help curb my enthusiasm and desire for sweets. Which I am not sure has really happened.  I still want to drink the Diet Coke, but it never seems to hit the spot.

I still want to eat sweets, ice cream being the hardest to give up.

Anyone else?  What are some the ways you’ve cut back on sweets?  Are you trying to lose weight?

Netflix – my ass hurts

September 7, 2011 Category :Internet Comments:0

To say I am an early adopter is a joke.  I’m an early bleeder. I had a Commodore Vic 20, Commodore 64, I loved TIVO when it came out, I was one of the first 50 people to get DSL when it came to our city, I purchased the first Sony DVD internal Burner ($800), iPad, iPad 2 and so on.  I like new!  When the “new” continues to grow and innovate, I’ll keep going along for the ride.

Which is why when Netflix came out, I was there. I love BBC shows, Netflix has them.  I love Starz, Netflix has them (had after February 28, 2012) and it had much of the stuff for children and old TV shows. Now it starting to loose its ‘new’, it lost the ‘new’ quite a while back, but I continued to use it.  Why? What else was there that offered what Netflix was at the same price?  1 DVD and unlimited streaming for under $10? ($15.98 now)  I didn’t have a new ‘new’ fix.  Netflix provides a product that there is a demand for and they are the only ones providing it at that price.  Apple, Walmart, Hulu and Amazon have similar type of services, but they didn’t have the catalog of movies and the price to draw me over.  I might be getting closer to move their way.

Now there facing some real tough challenges.  Surprise things are changing… we saw some of the changes.  Tech geeks and tech experts could see the code on the wall.  It was just a matter of time.

Consumers are demanding more streaming content, more bandwidth and better service.  Netflix usage to estimated to account for about 29% of the bandwidth used in the United States.  29.7% is a big deal when the next highest usage of bandwidth is HTTP (browsing the internet) at 18.3%.  (via Techcrunch)

So how much longer will I ride the bumpy Netflix road?  Not sure, but Netflix is guessing I’m there tell the end.  Let’s face it, if they can do just enough to keep people happy then we’ll stay.  That is getting harder for them, price increase, content decrease and possible caps on bandwidth.  Netflix might want to consider a bit of road repair.

Netflix – this bumpy dirt road is starting to hurt my ass pocketbook and attitude.
