To say I am an early adopter is a joke. I’m an early bleeder. I had a Commodore Vic 20, Commodore 64, I loved TIVO when it came out, I was one of the first 50 people to get DSL when it came to our city, I purchased the first Sony DVD internal Burner ($800), iPad, iPad 2 and so on. I like new! When the “new” continues to grow and innovate, I’ll keep going along for the ride.
Which is why when Netflix came out, I was there. I love BBC shows, Netflix has them. I love Starz, Netflix has them (had after February 28, 2012) and it had much of the stuff for children and old TV shows. Now it starting to loose its ‘new’, it lost the ‘new’ quite a while back, but I continued to use it. Why? What else was there that offered what Netflix was at the same price? 1 DVD and unlimited streaming for under $10? ($15.98 now) I didn’t have a new ‘new’ fix. Netflix provides a product that there is a demand for and they are the only ones providing it at that price. Apple, Walmart, Hulu and Amazon have similar type of services, but they didn’t have the catalog of movies and the price to draw me over. I might be getting closer to move their way.
Now there facing some real tough challenges. Surprise things are changing… we saw some of the changes. Tech geeks and tech experts could see the code on the wall. It was just a matter of time.
Consumers are demanding more streaming content, more bandwidth and better service. Netflix usage to estimated to account for about 29% of the bandwidth used in the United States. 29.7% is a big deal when the next highest usage of bandwidth is HTTP (browsing the internet) at 18.3%. (via Techcrunch)
So how much longer will I ride the bumpy Netflix road? Not sure, but Netflix is guessing I’m there tell the end. Let’s face it, if they can do just enough to keep people happy then we’ll stay. That is getting harder for them, price increase, content decrease and possible caps on bandwidth. Netflix might want to consider a bit of road repair.
Netflix – this bumpy dirt road is starting to hurt my ass pocketbook and attitude.
